January 06 Welcome to La CrêperieWe are a new French restaurant in Shanghai!
In fact, we are a typical Brittany restaurant...
Brittany is this beautiful region of France located in the North West of the country.
It has a very long coast on the Atlantic side, quite rocky and wild actually... and that's why there are so many lighthouses...
They guide the boats to make sure they find the right path and reach a nice port where to stop!
Some time ago, many of these boats were full of pirates coming back from the Caribbeans with a lot of Rhum!
Some of them brought back some other treasures like Buckwheat!
Did you say buckwheat?
It is said that buckwheat originally comes from Asia, and more precisely Nepal and Mandchouria.
Many consider that it is very good for health. Wonderful! We are not going to complain about it...
Buckwheat appeared in France in the 12th century. It has become very famous in Brittany because the climate and the earth were perfect for its growth. Even though, the name is related to "wheat", this crop has nothing to do with wheat! Only because of the way we grow it and we use it, it is compared to wheat, but in fact it is not even a cereal. In France, we have a special National day to celebrate crêpes! It is February 2nd... We call it "La Chandeleur" . On February 2nd, you have to eat crêpes! It is a tradition... La Creperie |
